Just Energy is an electricity and natural gas supplier headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario. The company serves about 300,000 energy customers in the province and about 2 million throughout North America. Just Energy currently serves 20 markets across North America, including 14 states and 6 provinces.

Objective
Just Energy had already virtualized most of their server infrastructure but had not updated the Disaster Recovery Plan to take advantage of the benefits in DR that virtualization can offer. They still had manual server rebuilds and data restore as their recovery plan for their virtual workloads. This type of Recovery in case of a disaster can take days for a full recovery.
Solution
Yataghan Networks implemented Disaster Recovery automation using Array based replication. By using VMware’s Site Recovery Manager, YNI was able to automate the recovery of Just Energy’s virtual workloads to their secondary data center. The recovery time was reduced from days to minutes. The automation features provided by VMware’s SRM allowed them to boot up servers in the correct sequence while observing dependencies and applying new IP addresses to the servers.
Result
JE’s recovery time has now been reduced to minutes. The manual effort required is not minimal. Their RPO is being achieved. They know that they are one click away from recovering their virtual machines at both their data centers in Mississuauga.

Just Energy has 400+ Remote Customer Service Representatives (CSR) that required computers and phones to be able to service customers. JE needed a solution to enable these CSR’s with computers and phones without having to provision and manage physical desktops and phones. They also wanted a CSR to be able to start ASAP once they had been hired.
Solution
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure using VMware Horizon View
YNI enabled JE to achieve their objective by implementing VMware’s Horizon View desktops in their private cloud. This allowed JE to provision desktops for the CSRs in minutes with an IP based phone attached to their profile. CSR’s now get a fresh desktop in seconds upon logon from their remote location and the desktop then gets refreshed once they are done for the day with their data being retainedResult
JE is now able to provisoin have a CSR up and running in minutes. They have 400 CSRs working without having to manage a single physical desktop with for backups, AV, hardware issues etc.
